Hamlin Electric Services wins National Award
for Work on Peetz Wind Farm

October 10, 2002

Hamlin Electric Services has received the "Excellence in Industrial Construction Award" from the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) for their diverse range of responsibilities and accomplishments while developing the Peetz Table Wind Power Plant in Northeast Colorado.

Hamlin Electric Services handled an impressive scope of work on the Peetz project:

  • Installing the electrical systems
  • Terminating the 33 wind turbines
  • Developing and running 154,000 feet of trench for the underground conductors
  • Building the 50-megawatt substation
  • Managing and coordinating all site work, concrete tasks
  • And a number of other responsibilities and contributions to the project
"There were several entrants," said Terry Moreland, Executive Director of the IEC's Rocky Mountain chapter, who accepted the award on the company's behalf. "But the type of project and vast scope of work that Hamlin's crew performed really stood out from the rest."

Wade Hamlin, Vice President of Hamlin Electric Services, expressed the company's enthusiasm for this award, the project, and for the potential of wind-powered electricity. "We are so proud of this project: not only because of the great job our crew did, but because wind farms are so important to our future. Wind energy protects the environment, helps the local economy, and increases our energy and power generation options."

Cinergy Global Power (an affiliate of Cincinnati's Cinergy Corp., and owner of the Peetz wind power plant) and enXco, Inc. developed the facility, and continues to operate it.

Xcel Energy - the primary electricity provider for the Denver Metro Area - has agreed to purchase 77 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year from the Peetz facility for the next 15-years. This electricity is made available to consumers through Xcel's "WindSource" program.

The Peetz Table Wind Power Plant has the capability of generating 73 gigawatts of electricity each year, which is enough to satisfy the needs of 10,000 households. Individually, each wind turbine can produce enough electricity in just one hour to supply a household's entire needs for about six weeks.

This award serves as another reminder that Hamlin Electric Services is indeed "firmly connected to current technology."
