Phil von Hake's Toyota PRIUS ... |

I bought a Toyota
Prius (gas-electric hybrid car) in August 2000, and took
delivery of it four months later. I still love it Love It LOVE
IT!!! In fact, it's one of the first things that ever got me to
think about Sustainability, closed-loop systems, etc. I test-drove about a dozen different cars during
the summer of 2000, ranging from compact sedans to turbocharged
mid-sizes. Once I drove the Prius, however, I knew I had
to buy one. Between the new technology involved, the high mileage,
"super-ultra-low emissions," and amazing affordability.
I was soon asking myself "How can I NOT buy this car?!" Simply put, the Prius uses a hybrid of gasoline
and electricity for power. The Prius generates additional electricity
from its own momentum, with the energy from coasting or braking
going from the wheels back into the battery. The results of this
ingenious technology include performance comparable to other compact
cars, mileage around 45mpg, "Super-Ultra-Low Emissions (or
SULEV)," and a much smaller environmental footprint than
most other cars on the road today. I could go on (and on!) about my love affair with
the Prius, but will instead just answer some Frequently
Asked Questions ... Of course, Toyota has its own excellent website
for the Prius
... And don't just take Toyota's or my word for it: register with
the "Toyota-Prius"
Yahoo! Group to hear more real-world experiences from my fellow
Prius drivers. Long Story Short -> GET A PRIUS! |
